From 18 to 21 March 2024, a group of students from the MAP program embarked on a laboratory trip to the chair for Process Biotechnology at the University Bayreuth. This laboratory trip is a cornerstone for MAP students pursuing the Focal Subject “Biomaterials and Bioprocesses”. By combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice, this experience equips them with the necessary skills and enthusiasm to excel in these specialized fields.

The four-day program focused on the fundamentals of E.coli transformation and the factors influencing its growth. The students additionally had the opportunity to explore the field of biocatalysis, actively participating in experiments like enzyme kinetics. This hands-on experience solidified their understanding of biological principles applied in engineering contexts and complemented their classroom learning.

Beyond the valuable laboratory work, the trip also fostered a strong sense of community among the participants. Staying together at a youth hostel provided a space for them to bond and share knowledge, offering invaluable support during a challenging exam period. They also explored Bayreuth together, visiting historical landmarks like the Markgrafliches Opernhaus and Stadtkirche. These shared experiences strengthened friendships and built excitement for the upcoming semester.
