Exploring and managing the unknown
A journey into design theory and innovation at Mines Paris - PSL
As a Master’s student in Advanced Materials and Process Engineering, I recently engaged in a transformative educational experience at Mines Paris – PSL. The course, “Managing the Unknown – Design Theory and Methods for Innovation,” was set in the scenic Luxembourg Gardens, blending the beauty of nature with academic challenge.
Central to the course was the C-K Theory, an approach that melds creativity and knowledge to generate innovative ideas. This framework provided a new lens through which to view potential projects, offering both structure and flexibility. Another concept introduced was the shift from traditional Research & Development (R&D) to Research, Innovation & Development (RID), promoting a more proactive and anticipatory approach to innovation.
The historic atmosphere of PSL University, infused with the legacies of Marie and Pierre Curie, along with Georges Charpak, added a profound layer of inspiration. Their pioneering work in the same halls I walked through served as a constant reminder of the impactful research that can emerge from such environments.
I am immensely grateful for the scholarship provided by the EELISA European University, which made this experience possible.
This course has reshaped how I view management, innovation, and creativity. The strategies and methodologies I have learned are not only intellectually enriching but also highly applicable to the challenges in the real world. I am keen to incorporate this knowledge into my work in Material and Process Engineering.
My journey at Mines Paris – PSL was more than an academic pursuit; it was an experience that bridged historical achievements with future possibilities, equipping me with essential insights for my career in engineering.
