Shanghai Ranking 2023: FAU remains one of the top 20 universities in Germany
8th place nationally in total publications
The Shanghai Ranking 2023 has been published and FAU has cause for celebration: Coming in at number 17, FAU retains its place among the top 20 universities in Germany. Internationally, FAU is among the top 10 percent of all universities included in the survey.
The ranking focuses on various indicators. Under the category of total publications, FAU attained its best result at the national level, coming in at 8th place. Internationally, it scored particularly with publications in the renowned scientific journals “Nature” and “Science”. Here FAU ranked 176th. In the indicator “highly cited”, FAU improved 40 places to rank number 234.
About the Shanghai Ranking
The Shanghai Ranking, officially known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities, has been published on an annual basis by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2003. Universities and a total of 54 individual subjects are assessed on the basis of various indicators in the ranking. The ranking focuses on research. Indicators taken into consideration include research publications, citations, Nobel prizes and Fields medals. More than 2500 universities were evaluated and the best 1000 listed in this year’s ranking for 2023.
