A Recap of

In summer 2023, a cohort of enthusiastic students embarked on a transformative journey in Niš, Serbia, to participate in the engaging and enriching summer course titled “UXperience the Design: Mastering User Experience”. Hosted by BEST Niš, the program aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of User Experience (UX) while fostering cultural immersion and connection.

Application Process and Cost

Prospective participants could seamlessly navigate the application process through the course website. The courses are usually announced once a season through an email newsletter. With a nominal fee, the cost was capped at 50 euros, making it accessible to students (the price also varies depending on the applicant´s country). Remarkably, this fee covered not only the course materials, but also accommodation and meals, ensuring a hassle-free experience for all attendees.

Academical Program

The academic facet of the course featured a distinguished lineup, including an experienced university professor from Macedonia and two professionals actively contributing to the UX/graphic design industry. Their collective expertise provided a well-rounded exploration of UX principles, combining theoretical knowledge with practical insights gained from real-world experiences. The diverse backgrounds of the instructors enriched the learning experience and offered valuable perspectives. The evaluation process was equally engaging, culminating in a comprehensive case study examination that tested the participants’ practical understanding of UX design principles.

Culture Program

Beyond the lecture halls, the course organizers curated a vibrant cultural program that allowed participants to delve into the heart of Serbian culture. A city tour, visits to historical sites, Serbian language lessons, and dance class provided a holistic view of Niš and its traditions. A special highlight was the Serbian cafana experience, which offered a taste of local cuisine and a chance to engage with the community on a more personal level. A memorable field trip added an adventurous element to the cultural program, creating lasting memories for all involved.

Party Program

Recognizing the importance of balance, the organizers infused the course with a lively party program. The traditional BEST parties provided an opportunity for participants to unwind, connect with fellow students, and experience the vibrant Serbian nightlife. These social events were not only a source of enjoyment, but also a platform for networking and building lasting friendships.

My impression

“UXperience the Design” was more than just an academic course; it was a holistic experience that transcended borders and disciplines. Participants not only gained valuable insights into UX, but also immersed themselves in the rich tapestry of Serbian culture. The course provided a unique opportunity to meet diverse and friendly individuals, fostering a sense of global camaraderie. Ultimately, it was not just about mastering user experience; it was about mastering the art of connection, cultural appreciation and, above all, having a lot of fun along the way.
